BOAO, Hainan, April 22 (Xinhua) -- China will unswervingly pursue peaceful development and pay more attention to friendly, mutual-beneficial cooperation with the world, especially Asian countries and regions, said Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong here on Saturday at the opening ceremony of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2006 in Boao, Hainan Province.
Answering questions from delegates to the conference, Zeng said that 2006 is the first year of China's 11th five-year plan, China will improve its mode of economic growth, pay critical attention to environment protection and resource-conservings, so as to maintain a stable and relatively fast development.
According to Zeng, China's GDP will exceed three trillion U.S. dollars in 2010, and the annual import volume will exceed 1 trillion U.S. dollars. The energy consumption per unit will be reduced by 20%, and lower the emission of pollutants by 10%.
China's smooth and fast development will provide more opportunities for regional cooperation in Asia, he said.
Zeng reviewed the five-year history of the BFA, saying that with concerted efforts from related sides, the forum has become a platform of communication and cooperation for Asia and the world as a whole. He expressed the wish that the forum will become ever better.
Zeng recommended Hainan Province to the guests as the primary destination of tourism, recreation and seeking business opportunities. Enditem
